The Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia is a congregation of Catholic women religious who choose a Gospel way of life lived in community and uphold a long and honored tradition of loving God and being in relationships through loving service.
We are committed to the needs of others, especially the economically poor, the marginal, and the oppressed. We are willing to take the necessary risks to be a healing, compassionate presence in our violent world, especially for women, children, and those who have no voice.

Step Out in Faith: The Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia
As her injured husband lay dying, Anna Bachmann, a pregnant, immigrant woman, experienced a religious epiphany.
Against all odds, Anna, along with her sister Barbara and new friend Anna Dorn, went on to found the Sisters of Saint Francis of Philadelphia. From its humble beginnings, the order would eventually grow to encompass over 1500 women religious and change the world through numerous ministries that helped to shape modern-day America’s schools, hospitals, charities, and activist organizations.
The sisters, with great humility, often toiled in the background, unacknowledged and under-appreciated. Theirs is truly a story of faith, and of moving forward even when things seemed impossible...

Red Hill Farm, owned by the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia, is one of the sisters’ many environmental initiatives. Red Hill Farm is a six-acre Community Supported Agriculture farm that has been in production for over 20 years. It provides produce for 120 members as well as for the Sisters of St. Francis. The farm has always been managed by utilizing organic practices.
